About the Project
“Songs from the Sea” is the musical component of the Wild Tongues Productions “Into the Blue” development series, directed by Samantha Hafey (2021-ongoing). Into the Blue is an eco-feminist lensed exploration and investigation of ocean themes, stories and water mythologies, which is currently still in development.
This performance of “Songs from the Sea” takes on the oceanic inspiration in the form of a jazz-theatre hybrid consisting of thru-composed score, performative improvisation, poems and spoken word. The piece is led mutually by Musical Director Thomas Meyer and Artistic Director Samantha Hafey in collaboration with devisors and contributors Riston Diggs, James Geng, Raul Rivera and Ryan Embola.
The intention of the work is to connect audiences back to the organic, to ‘inspire awe’ and to remind them of their role as custodians on this planet, hopefully motivating conservational efforts through art.
