What I liked
Brendan knows pace. From the first second of the show, he knows where to speak rapidly and he knows when to slow down. His comfort on stage is effortless. I learned a lot by watching this one.
What I didn't like
Though it was funny and poignant, I felt like Brendan’s walls were up. Though some of the childhood stuff was vulnerable to tell (and tho he did literally strip down), I didn’t really feel much emotional vulnerability from Brendan throughout. Would have loved him to open up a little more and go a little deeper, if that’s something he’s comfortable with. Less cerebral, more heart would improve the catharsis for me.
My overall impression
The perfect mix of a one-person show and stand up comedy. It’s engaging the whole way thru. Genuine laughs and interesting stories from a master writer/performer.
