The show says what it needs to in a short time. James tells his story, Chad’s story, and Jamie’s story before linking them all together to simply say, “We are people. Hear us.”
James delivery is effective, his writing ever poignant in this political climate, and his bravery completely apparent. Even with the short time allotted him, James showed he had nothing to hide. This piece should be heard, and James should be commended for such a heartfelt ode to Jamie.
What I didn't like
I felt like there were some moments where James stepped out of his light. I wasn’t sure if it was a choice or not.
My overall impression
James has constructed a piece that everyone on the gender spectrum can relate to in some fashion. The caricature of “Chad” is unfortunately an image that everyone on this planet has seen either in real life or from television. I came from a city FULL of Chads. It was petrifying. With this Caricature of (toxic) Men and the story of Jamie, James effectively made a piece that has left me thinking about how I view Trans people. This is a story that needs to be heard as I believe one would need to be heartless to not be able to empathize with the trans community after hearing it.
