What I liked
Ms. McAfee delivers an incredibly powerful and nuanced performance.
I was moved by her work and the story she so expertly told. No grandstanding, She’s like a train steadily picking up speed as she leaves the station on a steady, straight path down the rails to her inevitable and devastating conclusion. She’s angry, she deserves to be, she’s earned that right. Well directed and designed and McAfee does not disappoint.
I was left gutted and in awe McAfee’s performance. This is a great piece of theater.
What I didn't like
Nothing – This is the number one solo show of the fringe in my opinion.
My overall impression
It doesn’t get much better than this. Hailey McAfee delivers a performance full of rage and hurt as Effie. From the moment we take our seats, she’s there, holding her juice box, seething, we can feel it with every passing second. From the first lighting cue she is released, like an arrow being loosed. Her anger hits us right in the face, she’s come to collect a debt, a debt that we owe her. She doesn’t apologize for who she is. She passes her days by drinking to the point of debilitation and generally being an angry shit until she lets her guard down and gives something of herself, lets herself feel something for the first time in a long time.
