The comedic timing and accents were impeccable. The levity Dan brings to heavy topics and the specificity with which he approaches such broad subjects as trauma and loss is incredibly successful. This show was both reflective and cathartic. Bravo!
What I didn't like
I think that the theatre needs to have 9.83 million seats so that the entire population of LA county can see the brilliance Dan has to offer.
My overall impression
This show is as technically smooth as it is smart and entertaining. Dan brilliantly utilizes characters, accents, props, and projections to create the world of the show, and it is impossible not to feel the heart he put into sharing this story. Missionary Positions is not only the story of Dan’s relationship to religion and fundamentalism— it is a shared catharsis that invites the audience to acknowledge their individual journeys of faith and grief. I know this show will stick with me for a long time, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to meet Dan and see this performance.
