What I liked
The examination of pleading insanity as a sorta catch-all excuse that people can get when they’re justified in their crimes. The examination of women and their role in the prison industrial complex. How abuse can sorta take years to manifest. Sexual insecurities and sunken cost fallacies within relationship (yall been dating for years why leave now type of thinking). This play has alot of themes to explore and the two leads having such amazing chemistry that they’re able to pull off alot of it.
What I didn't like
The sex jokes felt really forced and would sorta take me out of it sometime. I like them touching on sexual insecurities and abusive relationships, but those bits of dialogues came outta left field alot of the times. Felt unnatural.
However, there were moments where it was incorporated well as Hannah Moore’s character would go on diatribes about only ever being with 1 person and how they wish they could’ve experienced more.
Overall though, i do feel like they were painting a larger picture about women who were in a long term relationship and felt trapped.
My overall impression
Hannah Moore and Ainsley Ferrell are both equally guilty of stealing our hearts! This play has a lot to talk about regarding women who want their voices known and what happens when they’re abused into submission. Its a very good portrayal of the aftermath of an abusive relationship and how one can really be beaten into submission. Such a thought-provoking 2 person play that did a good job of having us guess who really did the crime? And more importantly, are these women justified In their act?
