What I liked
I loved the incorporating of video throughout the performance. Having 3 projectors adding an extra level to each scene really took us to Everleigh’s world. It truly showcased how we can really bridge that gap between film and theatre. I love the simple set and just how wonderfully the actor, through her director, utilized it.
What I didn't like
I want more! 40 minutes wasn’t enough!
My overall impression
I have to begin by commenting on my intrigue upon reading the blurb that describes this show as using multimedia, as that can go several different ways. Let me say just how blown away I was by the usage of media in this show. Not only was the writing, directing and performing at its best, but the seamless blend of video and audio to aid in the story telling was just incredible.
Now, that being said, let’s really talk about just how brilliant this piece is. For a short (40min) production, you are not only taken to a very vulnerable, and dark place, with our main character, but you are rocked to the core and sent mind blown out into the world when it’s over. I was completely mesmorized by Everleigh’s performance, and writing. She is so brutally honest in her acting and so open. You feel for her character. You are slightly disgusted by her character. And you just can’t help but want to help her.
It’s intense. It’s electric. It’s unforgiving. It’s unapologetic. And it is one of the best solo shows, or any show for that matter, that I’ve seen this year.
