What I liked

Loved how the two leads that we start with eventually become the center of a tornado that sucks in an ever-increasing cast of normies forced to play along with the date. The play keeps getting bigger without ever losing sight of the bizarre love holding it all together.

What I didn't like

I just wish Dave Theune had showed up. That guy’s a fucking hurricane

My overall impression

I went in not knowing anything about the plot. The opening dinner date brilliantly drip-feeds us red flag after red flag about this couple. Wait, why is he called the “Butcher of 13th street?” And why is this lady so maniacal about “repeating” the date until she thinks it’s going well?

So much of the hilarity and heart of this story springs out of moments where any normal person would flee the date (while possibly screaming at the top of their lungs), but these moments only make our leads even more attracted to each other. The weirdness of these weirdos aren’t just there for us to laugh at, it surprises with a vulnerable insight that drives the entire play: Their weirdness has been what’s kept them alone. (Until now!)

A bloody nightmare of a play that just wants to be love and be loved, and based on the cackling, packed crowd (for a morning show!), it succeeds on both fronts.
