I was moved to tears over the humorous way the heart-wrenching journey of healing from religious damnation to self-acceptance was shared. Josiah creatively, hysterically & vulnerably shared his whole freakin soul with us. I left feeling inspired to take on any endeavor. Self-acceptance & wholeness within ourselves is where it's at. Flayed was absolutely astounding. A performance perfect comedy that balanced a heartfelt and poignant narrative while having the entire audience in stitches of laughter. Blount uses simple staging and layered sound design to take us into multiple places in time, emotion, and in psyche. He introduces us to a bashful, young, and inwardly tormented pastor doing his best to deliver a perfect sermon. And then we meet just some of the people of in his head and the people he might like to be if he weren't trying to be perfect. The switches in persona and the raising of stakes seem designed to stir up the audience's own personal discomforts. Or, to put it another way, Blount was unafraid to pull from the bottom of the spine. Like a true clown, he ate all the feelings he elicited in the climax of this piece. ... full review

I was blown away by this show. Josiah was hilarious, touching, incredibly inspiring and entertaining. It was all so inventive and cleverly crafted. If you only have time to check out a couple of shows this festival, I highly recommend this. ... full review
