Nick’s “promise bow” motif. It so clearly tracks Nick’s precarious relationship with honesty in such a beautiful, funny, devastating manner. We fall in love with him, root for him to tell the truth to his best friend Charlie, and when he falls short, we root for him just as hard the next time around. Every time Nick bowed, the audience audibly winced, knowing exactly what it really meant—-it was SO EFFECTIVE.
What I didn't like
Let him BE!!!
My overall impression
This is a show about addiction that is in fact not at all about addiction and really about a best friendship, honesty, betrayal, hamsters, and forgiveness—-of yourself as well as your friends. I cried about ten minutes in, and then laughed through those tears until my hair stood on end, and then cried of laughter again. I left feeling utterly inspired about storytelling as a whole.
