I loved how vividly Nick explained each vignette as he told his story. Each wrong turn / bad decision led to a visceral reaction. That coupled with the completely empty set made it easier for the audience to visualize every single detail from Charlie’s perfect bowl cut to the sinking feeling in your stomach after you lie to a best friend.
What I didn't like
Honestly, I prefer the addition of the new ending. I think it makes the story more open and relatable instead of a simple fable with a clear lesson that had to be learned at the end. It makes me root for Nick’s continued growth despite the harsh, dangerous subject matter.
My overall impression
It was a graphic, gut-wrenching yet hilarious coming of age story.
