I really disliked all the prompting being done from either the writer or director sitting in the front row. It would be better to let the actor catch up on her way on her own. When I asked why the prompting took place, I was told, “I could tell she was lost and we are preparing to take this to Edinburgh.” Did not agree that prompting had been so blatantly done during a performance.
My overall impression
While I knew about Dorothy Parker prior to seeing this solo performance, I learned more about her during this play than I ever knew before. Deeply researched and authentically performed, each tidbit shared opened up the world to me about this famed critic, write, and famous Round Table at the Algonquin Hotel attendee in the glorious days of early celebrity culture in New York.
