The dense collection of Dorothy’s mordant wit, splendidly excerpted to fit solo-show parameters and (hopefully) introducing audiences of THIS century to one of the true originals of the last.
What I didn't like
NOW I want to see the full-length original version of this solo show, a half-hour longer, and find out what was abridged for this year’s Hollywood and Edinburgh Fringe fests—-and why!
My overall impression
There’s Wit aplenty to fill the 45-minutes we spend with Dorothy Parker almost a century ago, all of Dorothy’s own creation, including her asides about her own promiscuous past, some of which were new even to me! I know what she looked like in Middle Age, and Margot Avery fills the bill. What I don’t know is what she sounded like, so I imagined a more abrasive, octave-lower voice delivering her mordant couplets—-and left longing to see the original, half-hour-longer version of this same material, abridged for this year’s Hollywood and Edinburgh Fringe fests.
