What I liked

Cadenza needs to be seen; it’s sci-fi thriller genre is something that doesn’t often get the chance to hit the stage and I am so glad that it did because it is a standout for a great suspenseful evening of theatre. It’s completely understandable why it’s having a sold-out run at the fringe and I hope this won’t be the last time we see the production come into the Hollywood area.

Edit: Thank goodness for its extension, now go out and see it!!!

What I didn't like

There are hardly any notes to this thrilling production. In future iterations of the piece, I would love to see the script break away from its more cinematic leaning tendencies with the biggest culprit being its character dialogue. The dialogue may often lean less naturalistic and more eccentric at times. Because the script is cinematic leaning it also has scenes that while great at establishing characters and relationships could be punched up and given a more theatrical pace. However, these notes pale in comparison to the wonderful story that unfolds before the audience and the phenomenal world-building that we are invited into immediately once we step into the theatre.

My overall impression

Cadenza has a magnificent overarching story with a great cast. I’m always a fan of science fiction theatre especially when we’re treated to a thriller/horror play! The world of the play is delightfully dark and gritty with incredible moments of suspense that’ll keep your mouth wide open.
