What I liked
I love seeing representation on any stage as it’s inspiring for theatre to reflect the world in which we live! I also loved the cross-gender casting and believe Chekhov would have been totally down with the choices made in this show! Bravo!!
What I didn't like
In one word – lighting. The show was too dark for me as I have vision issues and even with the moving lights, the alley seating, and all that was really cool in the presentation, I wanted some form of overhead lighting to help with the visuals.
My overall impression
Melodrama that would make any Chekhov fan proud? Yup! That would be this production of The Seagull! And I was definitely stoked to see this modern take on a classic done with few bells and whistles and just sheer badass talent! This company showcased a large ensemble of EXTREMELY capable and exciting performers that were not only heavily invested in the words, but also deeply involved in interacting with each other! That’s my kind of acting, my kind of directing, and my kind of show to come and support.
