The cast were easily the best part! Donté Ashon Green gave a totally show-stealing performance as Arkadina. I was also very impressed with the smooth way the performers handled some technical mishaps—the audience almost wouldn’t have known anything had gone amiss!
What I didn't like
It may have been the tech issues, but the moving lamps in the small space ultimately didn’t quite work for me; I wonder if the lighting design could have had better success in a larger space?
My overall impression
This production of Chekov’s classic is ambitious and brilliantly cast. A surprisingly intimate piece taking place within a slim aisle in the center of the room, the strange world of this dramatic and complex work feels almost out of time.
