What I liked
I liked that the plot was modernized and made relatable to current issues. I like how the characters were developed and given more depth and made more interesting. And eventhough the original book was part of our curriculum in school, it still managed to surprise me.
What I didn't like
Since it was in a small theater, scene changes in the dark felt a bit chaotic but it surprisingly added to the nuance of the story. It was also their first night, I bet they will be able to smooth out those kinks during scene changes in a few more run. It just makes me want to watch it again.
My overall impression
For the premier showing, I was overwhelmingly IMPRESSED! It was well written, directed and acted. The story line flowed and knowing the book it was based on, I really like how they modernized the story which made it so much more relatable to present day issues. I was a bit worried when they announced that there will be no intermission as it was a small theater which makes it challenging when a play loses my interest. However, it didn’t lose my interest at all, in fact when it finished, I was still wanting more.
