What I liked

The balls to the walls direction. I will avoid spoiling the visual gags but there are some truly bizarre movements and ideas in this depiction of hell’s residents that stuck with me to the next day. The final scene is one of the strangest, yet boldest ways I’ve ever seen personal redemption ever portrayed.

The actors deserve recognition for the many roles that they needed to switch into both mentally and physically. How you were able to manage to do this many costume changes without a proper backstage is impossible for my virgin stage mind to comprehend.

What I didn't like

Having a significant portion of the script in Spanish rendered it a bit inaccessible for me. Perhaps this was promoted in the advertising and I do understand the relevance of this choice but I felt as if I had missed many profound story beats and line deliveries as result.

I found it a bit strange how short-lived the 4th floor was in relativity to the others, this proceeded to a very prolonged, dramatic scene made that portion of the story feel very rushed.

My overall impression

A very fun ride turned absurdly entertaining by the creative team’s unique touches. The concept of finding redemption far too late into someone’s life is morbid and touching in it’s itself yet not entirely unoriginal. However, the wackier elements of the performances (especially Alejandro Jimenez’s multiple roles) and the striking direction made this play really stand out among the rest. I only worry of the play’s accessibility to non-Hispanic audiences due to the dual languages the story is built on, but that is a learning experience for me.

Infierno was a great experience to end my night on.
