ABOUT US: Harold Pinter’s “The Dumb Waiter” is the inaugural work of Theatron Productions. Our mission is to create opportunities for minority theatre artists to practice their craft. Theatron will foster community health by nurturing minority artists as they collaborate on producing free theatre of the highest artistic caliber for the public benefit. Our work will apply dramaturgy from a minority perspective. Theatron’s productions will present significant artistic contributions by artists from a broad spectrum of cultural heritage, LGBTQ+ identity, gender, religious affiliation, political ideology, body type, and functional diversity. ABOUTTHE DUMB WAITER”: Pinter creates an absurdist world with in which the logic of modern narratives is reversed as he exposes the unreasonable facets of social dilemmas faced by working class individuals in a capitalist culture. Our production examines what happens when disadvantaged, working-class folk are exploited by the rich and powerful, thwarting their chances for upward social mobility and limiting their options in such a society. Theatron’s production of Harold Pinter’s “The Dumb Waiter” will be humorous and provocative, serving to inspire discourse about the wealth inequality gap that continues to widen in our country, leaving many of us who seemed to be doing just fine with our earnings a few years ago with an expanding sense of despair due to inflation and the overall increase in the cost of living, especially in Los Angeles. In Pinter’s world, desperate circumstances impose desperate actions upon the characters. Our audience will relate to these themes and, in addition to feeling acknowledged, they will experience a sense of camaraderie with the characters and each other.
