I loved her use of the space. She really helped paint the picture of the bedroom and looked comfortable and at ease in her space. She was very connected, committed and grounded in her storytelling and you could feel how important it was to her. I thought the audience interaction with the food was a nice, funny touch. The show is also very colorful and there is a nice aesthetic contrast between the modern world vs travel back in time. Also, her voice and singing: amazing.
What I didn't like
In parts of the story where Lauren isn’t actively talking, the music could have been louder to help the audience feel immersed in the experience ( I was at the preview, so this is an easy adjustment). I think she could also play with ways to keep the audience engaged when she has to leave the room for a dress change. It felt a bit awkward for the audience since we were left with the empty stage for a bit of time. The moment right before the dress change, when we are listening to the clips, could be a bit shorter in length. And given how beautiful her singing is, rather than silently mouthing what she’s hearing, I would have loved to hear her humming to it or singing to bits. There can also be some fine tuning with the different characters she plays (which is really hard to do so props!) and bring more clarity in that. Sometimes it was hard to follow which character was doing the talking.
My overall impression
This show showcases many of Lauren’s talents as you get to hear her beautiful singing, her deep connection to her story, and how at ease she is in the environments she creates on stage. She gives you her whole heart in this performance and it shows.
