What I liked

We Continued our fringe2022 theater hoping with an onigiri like group of thespians. We chose to check out a show at the studio/stage theatre, called “Rice Rice Baby”. I know that the name sounds a little cheesey and campy, but let me assure you, this is a wonderful family show that has heart and soul. The story focuses on a young woman who finds herself caught between multiple identities. Brigitte Ngo-Trinh journey in this one-person-show is that she must come to terms with her past self-identity as well as her present newfound details to have a satisfying future in her own skin going forward in life. I felt like an audience member in the live filming of the Netflix show “Midnight Diner” Master(Brigitte Ngo-Trinh) and even for those familiar with MD the book publisher (JoAnn Sheppe Photography) and in the role of critic (Chambers Stevens) were in the audience of the show I saw.

What I didn't like

A common problem I have with one person shows is that will miss a few of the character switches, that were to quick or to subtle for me to catch.

My overall impression

This is a story about finding self, even if it’s in the most unexpected of places. It’s about taking new information and learning to be open to new experiences. It’s a tale that is relatable but from a unique perspective. The show will make you laugh, reflect, learn and leave you feeling hungry for more. Playwright Chambers Stevens delicious play takes you on a journey through time and identity. Join local actress Brigitte Ngo-Trinh for an evening of warm, funny storytelling, and how she uses food on her journey of self-discovery.
If you love food, or stories that make you feel connected to others through the bond of a communal meal, then this play is for you!
