My overall impression

This was a very interesting piece of theater. I went into the performance not truly understanding what it would be about, and was still confused at the end.

What I was not confused about was the quality of the acting. Both Patrick Riley and Zoe Chao turned in great performances in a myriad of roles with the central theme being the pursuit of love.

It was funny, emotional, serious and breathtaking. I was most impressed by the opening scene, where they stood next to each other under multiple layers of clothing, trying to keep from freezing, resulting in the quick shedding of all their clothes to make out. Once undressed, Zoe quickly slipped away, leaving Patrick shivering in the cold.

I also loved the scene performed to the music of Toto’s Africa, featuring them in wild feline costumes. This scene was particularly well played.

But the final scene was the most memorable, as Patrick visited Zoe in an attempt to get a shampoo and style. The resulting mayhem was hilarious – beware of the splash zone.

Besides the obvious acting abilities, the blending of their voices in song was spectacular, especially Zoe. I loved the music almost more than anything else.

Well done to Lonesome No More for their intrepid inagural presentation – I look forward to more great theater from them in the future.
