My overall impression

Through a series of movement, text, live painting and sound, the experience that Bennett and her cohorts create feels pretty messy and confused. That might sound bad, but it’s a lot like the mind-space of people who want to do something more with their lives and aren’t sure how. There are moments of clarity, union, dischord, beauty, horror – quite a lot packed into 45 minutes. Bennett and team ask the question “What does it take to get to a point in your life when you make a huge change, and get over your fear to tear your world apart?” That is a paraphrase from my interview with Bennett, and pretty necessary in today’s world.

Nothing that’s worth anything in this world is easy, and huge risks must be taken if you ever want to get somewhere. The “Tearing” team accomplish an event that I believe will move beyond the theater space and stick with their audience, even subconsciously.
