What I liked

This is not a solo show. It’s a masterclass of theatrical expression, a rapid fire soliloquy, dredging deep in the bloody muck of Dog’s sins and scratching the chalkboard of the heavens with equal ease and irreverent hilarity. Again, this is not a “solo show” it’s a one person play that explores a hard subject with fearless gusto. It’s a meticulously conceived fiction relying on mesmerism of Moroski’s performance to set alight the cinema of the mind. The structure of this piece is also one that should be studied by other solo artists because it’s tighter than the football jersey Dog wears. Bravo. Bravo. Bravo.

What I didn't like

I wanted him to wear his sunglasses more.

My overall impression

On a review board full of glowing superlatives this artist has genuinely earned them. A high octane feast of language, searing introspection, and intellectual gymnastics. THIS is why we go to theatre: to be branded, to get lost in someone else’s dream and be tattooed by an Absolute Moment. Some might say that Ben Moroski is at his peak with DOG but what I find to be an even greater accomplishment is that he’s ALWAYS writing/performing at this heightened level. He’ll accept nothing less of himself. He knows only one theatrical vernacular, and that is the parlance of Excellence.
