I appreciated the columns Mitchell selected to share for this show. I loved (and HATED) how damn relevant Ryoko’s columns are TODAY – commentary on racism, voter manipulation, abuse of power, government and police corruption. ANDTHEN, some incredibly personal selections that did move me to tears for the man who wrote them.
What I didn't like
I had some thoughts on staging at certain points, but the content and deliver was wonderful overall.
My overall impression
What an exceptional example of how a one-person show can be entertaining AND relevant. Playing the legendary Chicago columnist, Mike Royko, Mitchell Bisschop brilliantly weaves together Royko’s own columns to paint a picture of a man unafraid to use the report of his typewriter to take aim at some of the most corrupt and dangerous people (and prejudices) of his time and of the town he loved.
