Tennessee Williams’s muse, Anna Magnani, was the first Italian actress to win an Academy award. News of her win came through a phone call whilst asleep in Rome.
A force and voice for feminism and a determination to be authentic, during a conservative Italy in the 50s, which was still very polluted by the effects of the fascist era.
Anna was a self made woman, full of contradictions, tender and ferocious, powerful and unarmed.
A seeker of love, truthfulness, a singer of her song. She didn’t compromise an inch of her integrity for anything, but for love.
In this Solo Show we visit Anna Magnani, and witness some of her most trying and defining moments that led to this icon’s larger than life persona.
