I love how this story was woven together. We are taken on a whirlwind ride through the psyche and imagination of Aura as she dances between two worlds – that of her imaginary perfect lover and the reality of her mother’s impending illness. I especially loved the seamless transitions between characters. Brett’s physical prowess as an actor is evident from entrance to exit, with each dip, turn and spin through the mind of this vulnerable queen’s heart.
What I didn't like
Puh-lease! Perfection. Brett Morachnick did what needed to be done.
My overall impression
Hot Stuff IS HOTSTUFF! And the award goes to Hot Stuff for Best Hollywood Fringe Stage Entrance Ever! Masterfully directed by Debra De Liso, Brett Morachnick sweeps down the winding staircase as the dazzling Aura “Sublime” (she is indeed) immediately winning the hearts of the audience in a ravishing drag performance. What follows is even more lovely – a funny, emotionally open and grounded performance.
