What I liked

I love how Shelley has such control of her voice, which is so enchanting. And you can tell she knows that life is not all an anthem, nor a ballad, so I appreciate how the emotion in her songs never felt forced. She also wasn’t afraid to ‘go there’ when necessary. It was such a pleasure listening to how selective Shelley can be in her singing voice. It is obvious this isn’t her first rodeo, as she has complete control of the stage which assured the audience we were in good hands as we listened to Shelley’s vulnerability as she pursues love, and grows to understand where it needs to come from first. The stories are engaging, the singing, nothing short of alluring.

My overall impression

“Endearing elegance.” As I sat in the theater listening to Shelley Cooper share her stories of love and heartbreak through song, using humor and vulnerability, those are the words that came to mind— endearing elegance. Taking us through her journey of searching for love from a young age, and at times not wanting love (or perhaps trying to convince herself so) it was delightful to relate to some of her experiences, as well as chuckle, and sympathize, at some of her unique tales. At the core of everything though, is the heart of her story. And from her heart is where you can tell Shelley’s gorgeous storytelling voice is coming straight from.
