What I liked
Beautifully choreographed transitions and building of the story arch through lighting, character development, and use of the unexpected. Joyful Raven’s presence and ability to connect with the audience.
What I didn't like
I really can’t think of much, but if I had to offer something I would encourage any performer to find one or two intentional moments to pause, hold the profound connection she has built with the audience and breathe. She certainly earns it with this outstanding performance!
My overall impression
Joyful Raven crafts a revelatory experience with Breed or Bust—a sumptuous combination of storytelling, stand-up, and courageous self-reflection. Her noteworthy performance chops enable her to balance a refreshing trine of effervescence, ribald revelation, and stark authenticity. Breed or Bust opens an expansive yet intimate conversation about the complexity of gender equity, power dynamics, abortion rights and finding one’s inner compass.
