Many of the stories in this show resonated with my own experiences growing up outside the US – it’s startling to realize that women have to deal with such similar stigmas across cultures. The play is a nuanced and entertaining exploration of what women go through from puberty on. The four actress’ stories flowed very well together, with Chhaya Nene and Tanya Thomas in particular standing out in their heartfelt performances. The combination of several different storytelling styles – poetry, dance, pantomime and so on – worked very well to give the show an elegant flow.
What I didn't like
Because the show kept the audience’s attention, it felt as if it ended at the halftime point! It could easily have been double in length and one could then go into more detail or add more stories.
My overall impression
Great show! Funny, thought provoking, cross-cultural, overall rich exploration of taboos around experiences that women all over the world will recognize.
