I loved the way the characters from each time period – 2021 and 1971 – were introduced and then co-mingled. We got a sense of each character and each family – and then the complex interactions between them developed each character’s story as well as the overall family arc, and finally highlights of each generation.
The story had great character development, dramatic arcs, and flashes of humor. It built and meshed in an organic way and lead to a satisfying conclusion.
I also loved the small signposts of each era and the way the way differences and similarities kaleidoscoped to create new meaning and insights.
What I didn't like
I wished that some of the dramatic questions had been introduced earlier. At first, I felt that the scenes were simply sketches of typical families in each era. It took several scenes before the I realized the dramatic stakes.
