What I liked
Teruko is incredibly vulnerable, honest, and frank in her show but with such control over her material. There’s a visceral rawness to her performance mixed with storytelling that is baring for herself as a performer and for the audience. I loved her red outfit, the photographs, and my favorite was when she brought out her dog and began shaking it around stage. It was hilarious.
What I didn't like
I’m sure that the sudden and random flashing of a single light in the background has meaning but I wasn’t sure what it meant. Perhaps my lack of knowledge in theater is not serving me well here. But it was a tad distracting for me only because I was not clear on what purpose it served.
My overall impression
I loved Teruko’s one-woman show. It made me laugh and cry a lot throughout. The story resonated with me so deeply. I feel like my timing to see this show is now, and I feel grateful to have seen it.
