I really enjoyed the music! I don’t know if Jeremy calls this a rock musical or not, but it definitely felt that way to me. The backing tracks are great. It has an Elton John (as a musical composer) feel to it. Like some of the songs in Aida or Billy Elliot.
What I didn't like
I would LOVE to see this production with a full band and back-up singers! Obviously, this is the fringe, and that costs big-bucks. But I think this show could have a life on tour. You don’t have to be on the spectrum, or love someone on the spectrum, to appreciate this show. The message of self-acceptance and embracing life at your own pace is universal.
My overall impression
A funny and sweet biographical rock-musical solo show about the journeys of growing up with a disability and ultimately, not just accepting or embracing oneself, but celebrating the things that make us unique.
My favorite moment is when Jeremy describes how lonesome Aspergers made him feel as a kid and what a win it was for him to discover the choir, his people. When he takes center stage despite all his misgivings and belts out “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” it is an arresting moment. It feels important and special.
