My overall impression
Amanda Wagner undoubtedly put in a good performance, but historians have debunked the play’s portrayal of the subject despite the claim (on Carolyn Gage’s website and also in its listing here) that the play represents the “true” story of Joan of Arc based allegedly on the eyewitness accounts. These accounts often say the opposite of what Gage claims, even on basic points such as descriptions of battles as well as the implied claim that Joan was allegedly a lesbian, or the allegation her father was an incestuous alcoholic, and many other issues. See for example the following analysis at the Medieval History Database website: http://www.medieval-history.org/index.php?MHDB-Article-Review-The-Second-Coming-of-Joan-of-Arc-by-Carolyn-Gage
