Amanda Wagner undoubtedly put in a good performance, but historians have debunked the play's portrayal of the subject despite the claim (on Carolyn Gage's website and also in its listing here) that the play represents the "true" story of Joan of Arc based allegedly on the eyewitness accounts. These accounts often say the opposite of what Gage claims, even on basic points such as descriptions of battles as well as the implied claim that Joan was allegedly a lesbian, or the allegation her father was an incestuous alcoholic, and many other issues. See for example the following analysis at the Medieval History Database website: http://www.medieval-history.org/index.php?MHDB-Article-Review-The-Second-Coming-of-Joan-of-Arc-by-Carolyn-Gage

Easily one of the best solo shows at Fringe this year! Performer Amanda Wagner is captivating. She has completely immersed herself in Carolyn Gage's "coming out" play. This was such a joy to watch while being educated on the short life of the French heroine....

A quietly powerful script anchored by a stunning solo performance by Amanda Wagner. She commands the stage with a poignant aura of earned swagger and confidence as she looks right at you, telling you that you will listen to Joan's story. There's a directness in the script, the acting, and the on-point direction by Alyssa Escalante that make this production feel fresh and relevant without ever pushing too hard....
