The show is wonderful as is but I’m excited to watch is morph overtime. The material definitely lends itself to iterations over time as the writer/performer experiences new relationships.
My overall impression
Dickin Around is a deceptively delightful show with unexpected depth. Yes, it was the cheeky and effective (if girthy) advertisement for this show that got my attention in a sea of Fringe flyers. That said, the flyer perhaps undersells careful quality and emotional range of this thoughtfully hilarious show.
Michael Lyon gives us a uniquely earnest performance that is grounded with a natural effervescence. Post-show, I learned of his background in clown training, which definitely shines through in this open hearted performance.
At its highest points, Dickin Around is a beautiful marriage of chaotically beautiful physical comedy and authentic revelations about young love, sexuality, and independence.
Bottom Line: Michael is one to watch. I walked out of the theatre genuinely excited to see what Lyon’s does next… and you’ll leave with the added bonus knowledge of the astounding durability and stretchability of dildos.
