The experience of identical twins aren’t talked about enough, and are often seen as comedic or anomaly-type relief. We’re seen as a spectacle, but the emotional connections made in this twinship are often left private, and for a good reason. It is an intense relationship that once lost, can ruin one’s life and spectrum of it. This play looks at the memories of the surviving twin who, after the traumatic losing of her sister, has forgotten her name. She has to be forced to “watch” her memories in the form of home videos to finally remember. Remember the good, the bad, and the very very bad in order to feel a bit better. The integration of mental health awareness into a stage play based on our [surviving twins] personal experiences of being a Twinless twin makes it quite interdisplinary . The artistic values are only strengthened by the social cues and needs of this in society. We believe that the conversation that grief connected to suicide isn’t raw enough. The “taboos” of feeling angry or abandoned are hidden and this play showcases them straight and center, with no shame. These scenes are based on actual home videos, the few “good” memories we choose to watch of our loved ones and the whole base of this piece. How we choose to repeatedly watch us at 4 years old and not remember the tragedies of being a teenager. This play is set in current times, while the events being talked about occurred in the early 2000’s. We have taken noticed of the 90’s Rock Musical Movement with "RENT’ and "Rock of Ages’, as well as the Tony award-winning musical “Fun Home”, which is very similar in terms of relaying memories and suicide loss, as well as changes in social cues within the passing of decades. The play itself will contain the set of an attic that is based in “dream core”- an aesthetic that is based around bizarre imagery and objects. It heavily relies on nostalgic things, or places you feel you may have seen in the past. There is a camcorder on a tripod that is activated when the main character puts up an object from their past in front of it. A scene from a “home video” will then be acted out onstage by a younger version of the main character and the main characters late twin. This is the mode of transport for this piece, where some memories give the main character a letter of their sister’s name that they have forgotten due to the traumatic experience of grief. This play is near and dear to the whole cast and crew as we all can relate this this pain of loss, and we would sincerely appreciate any support to bring this story about the past to the present- alive and full of life in general.Learn More at instagram.com/yellowblueplay/
