What I liked

I liked the simple stage setup and the clever costume changes. I LOVEDDDDDDDD the whiteboard bit. “University Boyfriend” fucking SLAPS — it almost makes me want more comedic musical numbers. Lindsay has such a lovely voice. I love the vulnerability of the fantasy bit where Lindsay saves her mother and brother from her father’s abuse. It could even be played out more with lights or the projector or sound effects. So many great moments like this. Love asking the audience about English versus American pronunciation — feel free to bring that up even more! It’s clever and amusing and ties into the Essex roots. Lindsay has a great cheekiness to her humor and delivery — she was a TREAT to watch!

What I didn't like

I think there could be even more use of the projector and images to punctuate the story, maybe even the setting. I think the piece could be a bit longer to develop some of the transitions and give us more of what we’re already loving!

My overall impression

Lindsay Lucas-Bartlett’s one-woman show is an honest, clever, and sensitive coming-of-age tale told with charisma and charm. Lucas-Bartlett gets vulnerable in the sweetest of ways and holds your hand through the hardest moments of her life before setting you free to celebrate her achievements and growth right along with her. This debut (non)musical sings in its simplicity and the ease with which its star transports us through the phases of her life and all the love and loss one experiences along the way.
