I needed a task where missing one requirement could noticeably change the result. Climate change and higher education worked well because the subject is broad enough to require judgment but specific enough to establish measurable requirements.
What I didn't like
I decided to focus the paper on extreme heat and its effects on college campuses. That gave the writer a defined environmental problem, while still leaving room to examine infrastructure and student consequences separately.
My overall impression
I did not want to submit a five-paragraph essay with a broad topic just to see whether someone could produce readable English. That would not have told me much.
I also wanted to avoid choosing a topic that could be handled mostly from general background knowledge. The assignment specifically required current evidence from 2022 through 2026, so the writer would have to pay attention to publication dates rather than simply collect familiar older sources.
There was another reason for the choice. I had previously spent far too much time browsing argumentative essay topics for college when what I actually needed was a clear research question and a manageable scope. This assignment had already solved that problem for me. I could concentrate on evaluating the service rather than inventing the academic task.
