What I liked

Immersive nature of the piece was immaculately executed. Performances felt grounded and honest. Moving from space to space kept the momentum of the show going. Surprise treats at the dinner table were a nice touch. Being able to sip an ”old fashioned” during the show put me in that 1920s kind of vibe.

What I didn't like

I wish the show was longer!

My overall impression

I thoroughly enjoyed this immersive rendition of The Great Gatsby. It’s definitely the best Fringe show I’ve seen this year. I thought the cast did a superb job in bringing the story to life in the various intimate spaces. I really enjoyed the close-quarters nature of the piece, and being able to view the actors up close made it seem as if we were watching and participating in a scene from a film. These up-close encounters with the actors left no room for dishonest performances, and I was very pleased to see acting that was honest and not theatrically over the top. Chris Lanehart did a terrific job at portraying Nick, bringing a freshness and air of delightful melancholy to the words of F. Scott Fitzgerald. I loved being an active participant of this show. My only wish is that the show was longer! It left me wanting more, which I guess is what a good show should do. I’ve heard that the producers of the show intend to eventually extend it into a full length production that tells the entire story from cover to cover, and that excites me a lot! Overall, a wonderful, creative and spectacular new work by the team at 2Cents and Loose Change. Go see it!
