What I liked
Stories of both Sugar and The Shit were compelling. I especially liked hearing the Origin of Tony the Tiger and the adjacent tiger (and adopted children) exploitation stories. That was quite creative and original. The back story of the adopted little girl and her volatile parenting was touching. It was a powerful moment when she told her dead-in-the-casket mother to FUCK OFF. I wish that had been in real time, rather than a retrospective narrative. That said, The Shit delivered a lot of powerful content.
I also liked the costumes.
What I didn't like
I didn’t truly understand the theme. It was rather esoteric and I didn’t see how the parallel stories were connected (other than a thread of tiger theme, but that was mostly in The Shit’s story and hardly in Sugar’s).
I was mostly able to stay engaged during the Shit’s storybook reading, because the material was compelling, but it would have been more interesting if there had been some movement, different characters, or something other than her just sitting there, reading from a book. To reference my earlier comment, it would have been even more powerful if the Fuck you, Mom moment had been in real time. I would have been more drawn in had there been real time times moments rather than all retrospective. A good effort. Ballsy material. Well done, ladies!
My overall impression
Interesting subject matter, raw, bold, authentic
