Watching Michaels Daughter was moving. I have no exact word to describe the performance of Ciera Paytons. It was aspiring, to see this woman open up about her family story and her relationships with her mother, auntie kathy, and her father. rather her lack of relationship. Alot of people keep there secrets held within. however Ciera opens up about something so sacred, so personal and uses it as a strength rather than a weakness. I am most impressed with the way she wrote the story with using exact key moments in her life and actually bring the characters of auntie kathy, her father michael, and her mother to life. It was beautiful. well I found the word to describe Michaels Daughter, "Beautiful".... full review

Ciera Payton sets such an intimate setting with this expositional one woman show. I felt like I was being told a touching story by a close friend. The colorful personality of New Orleans and its natives are shown throughout the show. The most intensely gripping moments were Ciera's portrayal of her loving-from-a-distance mother and her tell-it-like-it-is father. Ciera's commitment to painting the scenes and the warm temperature in the actual theater made the audience feel like we were in New Orleans!... full review

http://hollywoodprogressive.com/?p=5603 Michael’s Daughter: Daring to Look Back “Michael’s Daughter,” the one-woman play written and performed by Ciera Payton, quilts together family dysfunction, drug addiction, and the weight of growing up biracial in the Deep South into a loving, bluesy jazz riff on one woman’s ability to surmount forces that would surely crush a lesser soul. In telling her own life’s story, Payton artfully dons first a flannel shirt, a stutter, and a stoop to become her crack addict father, borne of an illicit biracial affair, who now counsels his daughter on better paths from the confines of his Louisiana prison cell. Then it’s a silky blouse to become her eye-catching mother, married too young, a mother too ... full review
