The performance and the writing were engaging and I never lost interest, even though I was watching via livestream – that’s saying something. I loved the relationship between him and his emo friend from High School – I just kept shaking my head when his friend brought up the bible and tried to convince Jair that being gay is a sin. It’s very relatable. If you are LGBTQIA, an ally, or simply a human being who wants to hear a vulnerable and beautiful story told on stage, this is for you!
What I didn't like
I was watching livestream unfortunately because I couldn’t be there in person. The video was a little dark at times and I couldn’t see Jair clearly. So, more of a technical thing, which is a bummer. But, in terms of the performance, it was great and I would want to see this one in person someday.
My overall impression
Growing up in a community that is more or less homophobic, I understood what Jair was talking about and have seen very similar treatment of friends and loved ones. It broke my heart to hear the way he had to suppress his true self for such a long time, even going as far as marrying a woman. It was really fascinating, raw and vulnerable theater. The writing was poetic and ultimately hopeful.
