What I liked

Lighting was beautiful, the spare setting and staging was fitting. Makena’s performance is brilliant, I couldn’t take my eyes off of her.

What I didn't like

I’d like to see a full length play developed in the world Makena has built. Otherwise, I would have liked a direct interaction between the mother and the ancestor characters to see how they relate clearer.

My overall impression

A powerful, devastating short work about grief and black motherhood. Really left me thinking about what we do to protect our children and why, and what happens when the systems around us give us no other options.
