About the Project
Out of work actress, Nikki Carini makes a trip “back home” to celebrate her fortieth birthday. With her family. Her Italian family. Accompanied by her alcoholic boyfriend, Jesse, Nikki arrives with flowers in her hair, pontificating positivity to her old-school parents, Leo and Rosalie. But something isn’t right. The home she knew as a child quickly begins to feel like a sinking ship, when she finds a stranger named Frank, living in the basement. Hell bent on getting rid of the imposter, Nikki uncovers a web of lies, devised by her parents. With positivity waning, she begins to unravel — soon becoming everything she despises.
By the time Christmas arrives, Nikki’s fully lost her spark. She returns to the homestead for a dose of holiday nostalgia, a last ditch effort to pull herself from the muck. But when a freakish weather pattern threatens to “wipe out the planet,” she’s faced with her own mortality, making her question her love for Jesse, her lack of success, and her family — who’ve clearly lost their minds.
