The ‘Mother Wound’ is a hole that is created by being ‘under-mothered’, when one experiences a lack of parenting due to factors like their mother’s emotional unavailability, narcissism, or mental illness. Hear what happens when Holly McNeill, a Buddhist, writer, and retired architect finds herself living, temporarily, with her beautiful and talented niece, Joslyn Sarshad, only to discover her niece suffering from the same holes and wounds Holly was writing about in her memoir – emotional pain passed on from generation to generation.

But the Mother Wound be-damned. Sprinkled throughout the show is Buddhist thought that says, among other things, that at some point we have to take responsibility for our lives. We get to choose whether to find strength when dealing with the negative karma that comes our way or become victims, prisoners to the painful mindset we create around these injustices.

Holly and Joslyn, SECOND DEGREE, second-degree relatives, have come together, in the first of a series of shows about the gifts found behind the adversity, to share their intergenerational journeys of healing. Listen as they explain about the power of our minds and how, as humans, we have the ability to create our lives on purpose through our intentions, thoughts, and actions.

This unique and one-of-a-kind duo invites you into their inner circle of healing, sharing intimate stories that are intense and painful telling of adversity, struggle, transformation, and joy. The stories are balanced with stunning original music, written and sung by Joslyn. Accompanying the two, not only during Joslyn’s songs but also throughout the performance on cello and guitar is EMÆL, a talented musician and vocalist.

Finally, participate in heart-opening meditation and hear about other tools the two women have employed to heal from their ‘Mother Wound’. At different points on their journey but connected by blood, Holly and Joslyn are willing to be vulnerable here. This is real life: raw, candid and unapologetic.
