What I liked

This is what women want when they ask for “strong female leads!” Jen Albert is flawless as Boudica, both in emotional performance and physical prowess in the fight scenes. A really strategic and creative scenic design, not usually seen in fringe shows, provided vivid visuals in a black-box setting. Christopher Johnson, once again, deftly balances a “classical” piece with emotion, humor, and epic carnage. The live music blends excellently with the canned sound design and adds the element of urgency that keeps this fast paced show flying.

My overall impression

Battlesong brings the familiarity of a Greek Tragedy and a Shakespearean History play while simultaneously feeling absolutely modern. Despite being 90 minutes, the show flies by! The tragedy is mixed with witty humor, creative dance choreography, and Jen Albert’s signature award-winning fight choreography. Thoroughly entertaining and highly recommended!
