About the Project
… AN ODE (pronounced: one beat, two beat, three beat /ən oʊd/) is a one woman show based on interviews with women about their experiences with menstruation and menopause. The title both puns on periods (surprise, surprise) but also attempts to highlight the silence surrounding this topic, suggesting instead a more open dialogue.
… AN ODE is an offering of sorts, an attempt to destigmatize, to bring humor, light, clarity to a subject so often shrouded in shame.
… AN ODE works to celebrate cycles and champion changes.
… AN ODE does not assume to know anything about anything, rather, it offers up topics for discussion and provides a platform on which to discuss.
… AN ODE is inclusive, not exclusive. It understands periods and menopause as touching everyone, directly or indirectly.
