About the Project

“She Works Hard for the 80s”
She Works Hard for the 80s the story of Coco Pebbles a black is drag queen performer want to be the truest highest expressions of herself. She is searching for enlightenment or DRAGLIGHTENMENT. Questions so many questions. Where does Coco fit into world? What is my purpose and Am I on the right track? Or simply WTF am I doing with my life. This the underlining question that everyone has in life at one time or another.
Coco is so over performing clubs night after night at mindless clubs, and empty seats only to end up broke. The CoCo show is just not happening. Seems the world does not need another drag queen. Broke, Busted and Disgusted Coco is done. The Coco show is over. It’s a wrap, done, last curtain call. Back to her tool box with meds and nothing but a prayer. Thanks to years of therapy Coco has some insight of her gifts and talents. She uses affirmations and visualization to try and create the life she wants but none of that seems to be working. She is a phenomenal dancer and extremely funny but none of that matters when the shows are not selling, she is struggling with depression and her castmates (Sole Valentino and The Other Black Girl-Yes that is her real name) have their own issues and hidden agendas (Scandal Bitch!!!!). Coco is questioning is a dream worth losing your sanity, embarrassment of failure, and the facing an eviction. What to come of Coco and all the talents she has. One option is move back to Oklahoma and wait tables at the Lula’s Chicken Shack. Sounds perfect right about now.
She Works Hard for the 80s is story of guidance, failure and transcendence. A story of finding your way even through life hard times. Learning to listen to your life with an open heart and open mind. The vision may be worth it and success may look different than you imagined. Coco is learning to lean into her setbacks and learn from her mistake. Dance will lead Coco and her friends with songs from 80s with upbeat hip hop break downs from Timberland, E40 and Dr. Dre. Coco must keep believing in her talents and accept that where you are is where you needs to be.
