What I liked

This piece took a very personal approach to themes and situations/gave a voice to very relatable human experiences. I think the reason I love good art is it reflects back to me parts of myself. I identified with having a father with no boundaries in terms of expressing his deep sadness towards being alive. Tony captured what it felt like to feel crippling loneliness, trying to hide it, and the bone chilling embarrassment of knowing somebody else could see it. I loved seeing him be numb to his feelings, and then finally expressing them. I loved this idea of the challenges of being different, it being looked down upon, and not caring. I loved it all.

What I didn't like

I can’t think of anything.. other than possibly less snacking on stage? Hahah!

My overall impression

My overall impression was simply that it was important. Tony captures a familiar feeling of how, I think, many in his generation feel about watching a parent work an unfulfilling job that “literally killed him”. With the rise of the antiwork movement, the message of this piece felt reflective of that, which “seeks to question and critique the role of work in our lives, arguing that the majority of modern work is unnecessary and unfulfilling”. Also, I remember being told when I was graduating college that it was going to be very hard to find a job, and I had a college degree… and it really was.
